Editorial Reviews for  'In Rainbows [Vinyl]'

Album Description
Radiohead release their new album "In Rainbows" on XL Recordings on 31st December 2007.The album is released on CD and vinyl and will be followed by the release of the single "Jigsaw Falling Into Place" on January 14th January 2008. The single is already the most played track from the album on UK and US radio. "In Rainbows" was released in download format earlier this year, when it was received with huge acclaim in the press.

On the deliriously satisfying In Rainbows, Radiohead returns to a more straight-ahead (though subdued) rock sound. Much hubbub has been made about this record's innovative release. Radiohead allowed fans to pay what they wished to download fairly low-resolution tracks from the band's own website. Like so many innovations, it already seems funny both that it was such big news and that someone else of similar stature hadn't done it sooner. Some pundits were appalled that it took awhile to download the tracks if you tried to do it at the same time as thousands of other people, while others decried that the group was trying to kill the music industry (or save it). Little of the press seemed to focus on the record itself, which actually made sense because it was so entertaining and inviting, the most low-key album Radiohead has made to date. There's even a very straight-forward, simple, silly little love song, "House of Cards." It might be a bit lethargic, but the simple instrumentation of electric guitars, bass, and drums is lovely as heck. A handful of these tunes enchanted fans for years before finally being committed to computer "tape." This is particularly fitting as In Rainbows is the group's most "band"-sounding album since OK Computer. This is not a record that hits you over the head with how far this group is pushing the envelope; it's simply a phenomenal, well-crafted, and exciting album. As soon as it's done, you're playing it again. --Mike McGonigal

Return to Form
When this album was released back in October, 2007 on Radiohead's website for digital download only, I paid 7 British pounds for it. That's equivalent to almost 11 USD. A fare price, I thought. After a few listens, I would have paid twice that amount. I listened to it all that Fall and well into the Winter. This is a most excellent effort from Radiohead. I have enjoyed it as much as "The Bends" and "OK Computer". For me, it's a return to form.

There are no wasted moments, no weak tracks: just primo Radiohead:

15 Step: Really great beat with this. I have a friend that said it's one of the most sexiest songs she has ever heard.

Bodysnatchers: Radiohead rock all the way. The real highlight of this song is the soaring guitars at the 2:08 mark.

Nude: A gorgeous ballad, beautifully written and sung as Thom Yorke floats away with it.

Weird Fishes: Haunting song; this one reminds me of Paranoid Android in its song structure.

All I Need: A really catchy song. Loved it the 1st time I heard it.

Faust Arp: I closed my eyes and could hear the Beatles in this one.

Reckoner: Yorke's falsetto paves the way through this one. Very nice.

House of Cards: Very catchy song, one of the best they've ever done. Love the little bips and bops in this one.

Jigsaw Falling into Place: Yorke sings all the way through this one and it works.

Videotape: Yorke's piano keeps pulsing in this one until the end of the song. A perfect album closing song.

Their best - arguably
There's so many good reviews here regarding this release. I've had it since its release and still enjoy it immensely. I'm posting this review b/c I just listened to it in its entirety via headphones and it just got better. There's so much more info, it's almost like a re-release. If you appreciate sonically intricate recordings, this, as well as most Radiohead releases is a complete joy to hear w/ some cans on your ears. This record stands out, however, in that there's not as much extra digital noise tracks that these guys pepper their records with, which I often find bothersome. So I'll rank it near the top, just behind the OK Computer masterpiece.

/at Long Last!
I've been searching for "15 Step" for a long time. Luckily, Direct TV showed a studio Session for In Rainbows & I knew this was THE Radio Head CD for me. It's got some really great, haunting songs & I can't get enouogh of it!

Another great one from Radiohead!
In Rainbows is an appropriate title for another wonderful musical roller coaster ride from Radiohead. I found myself going from smiling and bopping along to crying when I listened to this one for the first time. They always manage to make me question my mental stability and yet I would buy anything that they put out without hearing one song. Their songs utilize instruments and sounds that are unexpected and whimsical and yet the rhythms are there to take you away.

It's All I Need!!! (This is all I need for my music collection)
Quality of album: This album is simply amazing, words can't describe this masterpiece. You would think that there would be some weak link, one song that you just can't stand, but their isn't one. Of course, that is what Radiohead has been doing for the past two decades (90's and 00's). This album isn't one of those albums that hits you right over your head with its brillance, it's like wine. It really grows on you. It makes you think...

Change?: Radiohead is an alternative of what you commonly hear on the radio. They don't break glass and turn it into something they are not.

Which album is the best?: Many people say this is Radiohead's "Best." It's hard to say... only time would answer that question. The problem simply is you can't compare "The Bends" and "OK Computer" to "Kid A" because of style changes. Radiohead: Rock/ Alt, Jazz/ Electricona, Acoustic, Rock/ Pop, Pop, and a little bit of Blues... What can I say, they are accomplished, it makes me proud of my music: at least someone out there is producing classics that wouldn't wane over time.

Content: "I'm all the days, that you choose to ignore," another great lyric by them. If you are still wondering about the lyrics, they are obviously about how we effect the environment, where we live.

If Radiohead had its own radio station, that radio station would be the greatest! Just imagin... "Karma Police," "Everything in its right place," to "15 Step!"
