From the Manufacturer |

Your system’s digital front-end is a vital link in the audio reproduction chain. The exacting process of retrieving digital data and converting it to analog without the influence of digital noise is a key determinant in assessing the class of different playback components. Also, the ability to control timing inaccuracies (jitter) is another crucial factor in the quality of audio reproduction of digital sources like CDs and MP3s. The DX-7555S audiophile-grade CD player has been designed with these considerations in mind. With Onkyo’s Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry (VLSC), the digital signal is protected from pulse noise, and with a super precision clock, a precise timing reference is maintained. By combining quality parts like a sophisticated 192 kHz/24-bit DAC with Onkyo’s renowned build quality, the DX-7555 will deliver digital audio sources with the accuracy they deserve. Key Technology Features: Super precision master clock: (+/- 1.5 ppm) for accurate audio signal. 192 kHz/24bit AD Converters: Costly, extremely powerful digital-to-analog converters , that not only boast a dynamic range of 120 dB, they process information faster and are virtually resistant to clock jitter, to ensure the best possible performance from DVD-Audio, DVD-Video and audio CD. RI (Remote Interactive): With Onkyo’s exclusive RI (Remote Interactive) system capability, you can integrate and operate all compatible components through a single remote control. What’s more, RI capability enables you to simply connect the iPod® to your receiver through Onkyo’s RI Dock for the iPod (DS-A1). Your iPod effectively becomes another Onkyo component from which you can relish a fuller sound that just can’t be experienced through headphones. RI capability will also give you remote operability of your iPod for hands-off control over your digital music. VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry): Conventional D/A conversion methods reduce digital pulse noise at the conversion stage but can’t remove it completely. Previously only found on our high-end components, VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) employs a unique D/A conversion circuit to overcome this problem. Data is converted between sampling points and these points are joined with analog vectors in real-time to produce a smooth output wave form. The result — a virtually noiseless, smooth analog signal based on the digital source to bring out even the most subtle of nuances in your music, movie soundtracks and even MP3s. MP3 Playback: This audio format achieves about a 10:1 compression over conventional CD audio. What does this mean? You can store many more songs using the same amount of space. For example, a standard 650MB CD can hold more than 200 songs in MP3 format. Various bitrates allow for higher or lower quality, depending on the desired sound quality of the final recording. |

Excellent! |
|
I purchased this player when my Sony DVP-S900ES died. The Sony was a great Redbook player, but this Onkyo is better. The Onkyo is more detailed and smoother at the same time. I used to get some listening fatigue at high levels with the Sony, and the Onkyo has eliminated that. I also love that this is a dedicated player, meaning no quirky sleep modes, no failures to play CDRs, and no extra circuits to pollute the sound. I really don't think this player can be beat for the price. |

Nice, but a mafunction |
I got this unit in August 2009. It's February 2010 and just about a week ago this player started skipping on the 4th or 5th track of any CD I play; after that it plays OK. Even caused me to return a new CD thinking the CD was defective.
This unit sounds very good and appears solidly built, but the malfunction will waste my time with having it repaired, after such a short time and not that much use.
This unit replaced a Pioneer CD player that I had since the 1980s, that didn't give me any problems until the end when it got physically noisy, tapping while the CD spun.
One other observation... this Onkyo unit is sensitive. If I walk too hard it might skip. The Pioneer did not.
Sound-wise the Onkyo is great. Quite expensive, so I thought it would be great all-around. Nope. I will update this review after I get it repaired. |

Another exceptional product from Onkyo! |
Hi from England - and Greece! I recently bought one of these CD players new for £199! and felt compelled to add my experience so far.
Straight off, the sound quality of the 7555 is simply and NATURALLY superb! I am using the matching (in every way) 9755 amp and have the use of three pairs of speakers, which are capable of doing this Onkyo set up justice.
These are a) A pair of modified Dynaudio Contour 1.3 MKIIs. b) A pair of hybrid speakers I built using 4 NXT panels (2 per channel with a dedicated 10" sub and super tweeter top end bottom) and last but not least c) my old pair of "Parthenons", so called as I have used solid marble slabs for the sides, each recently updated with 2 12" Peerless bass drivers to an Onkyo mid-range horn driver (from 1974!) and super tweeter, capable of probably the most 'real' sound I've heard - regardless of money! Best of all, each pair has cost me only a few hundred dollars to make, as the Dynaudios were picked up very cheaply 2nd hand and also modified by me.
I mention the speakers as, since the late 60s, I have aspired to do justice to all those groups, orchestras, musicians and artists who have given me so much pleasure, but could never afford the "hi-end" kit that sometimes came close to naturally reproducing what my ears expected or had heard live! For many years, the wonderful Onkyo A9070 amp and reasonably priced turntables and cartridges served me well and then came CD.
But since my Philips 104b CD player, the struggle has mostly been finding a front end source I could afford that could reproduce the potential that digitally recorded sound offered. Unfortunately even some outrageously priced "hi-end" kit failed to sound accurate to that recorded sound - let alone natural. Until now!
'Naturally' the Onkyo isn't absolutely perfect (what is?) but it comes so satisfyingly close that I am now simply listening to the music and, only sometimes when rediscovering new insights on familiar recordings, think about or become aware of the quality of the equipment.
Finally, if you still have a CD collection and don't want to spend silly money to hear it satisfactorily, all I can say is, if you're lucky enough to still come across one, grab it! This CD player (and amp) is extraordinary value for money - even at it's "original" price - with excellent, cost effective application of technology and 'sound' engineering. Quite frankly, it also raises serious questions regarding the multi thousand price tags of so many "hi-end" products. |

Single CD player is better than carousel for some |
I bought this single disc CD player to replace a carousel CD player of lesser quality. The sound quality is far superior and I am very pleased with it. I have no basis of comparison with other products, so I cannot say if it is better than other players. My decision was based on a Consumer Reports review that I read.
However, the single disc format is great. I am an untidy individual and I find it easier to take one CD from the jewel case and put it back than it was to manage multiple CDs. I am also a couch potato and the extra exercise doesn't do me any harm.
