Godd fully automatic turntable, with potential to be excellent
First I will mention the caveats. Any turntable that includes a cartridge, the cartridge is substandard. Replace it immediately. Also, built-in preamps are never goood, either. Get a good receiver that has one, or an outboard phono preamp. This turntable is also not grounded, but a ground wire is easy to add. This turntable is also not well isolated, buth that too is an easy fix.

I have owned this turntable since 2004 and I have made all the necessary fixes by now. I use a 30+ year old Shure cartrige for which I got a replacement stylus from LP Gear. And I have a Denon stereo receiver that has a phono preamp. This turntable sounds great and is easy to set up. The fully automatic functions work great. I purchased this to replace a Technics SL-1200, as I am now disabled and need a fuwould make thlly automatic turntable. It is belt drive and the platter is well isolated from the motor. Plays 7" and 12", but not 10". Plays 33RPM and 45RPM, but not 78RPM.

But Denon needs to get with the program and dump the included cartridge and preamp, isolate the base and put this on better feet, and shield the motor and add a ground wire. Also, the stereo output wire sucks. Upgrade that, and add another 8". These changes would make this a great turntable. As it is it is just OK, with the main advantage being that it is fully automatic.

DENON = YUGO
The turntable looks nice Price and quality about to be RIGHT ! But doesn't work nice! The speed of rotation is vary and is very difficult yo set-up! Once is set it works but not for a long! The manual screw underneath for speed set-up is so senseless and it doesn't do anything for 1/16 of turn then is a huge difference in a speed and it is so hard to do it by yourself ( you need one more guy to help you)!
Sound is OK when everything is OKAY otherwise guess yourself. I am electronic Ing. and fixing any kind of devices is my specialty and I love fixing Turntables and I did a lot of them of every kind in the past. They should think to put little bit better speed regulator then the one in a CHEAP MOTOR SCREW !
Over All Its not a bad product Reminds Me on Serbian (Yugoslavian) YUGO Cheap and once tuned correctly it does work OKAY otherwise is constant headache !

Couldn't be happier!
I may not know what I'm talking about as I grew up in an age where the turntable had already faded but this is a very excellent turntable. Yes it may not be the highest quality one out there but it has to be the one with the greatest value. Even using the standard cartridge the sound is pretty good. The fully automatic feature is very nice so I don't have to babysit my records as they play. Being able to seamlessly switch between LPs and 45s is also great. My only complaint is I had trouble getting it set up and adjusted. This pry way just due to the fact that I have never set up a turntable before. I would highly recommend this product to anybody looking for a good budget turntable. It maybe a little pricer than some budget tables but the extra price is worth it.

Outstanding turntable, poor factory cartridge.
I recently purchased a full home theatre setup, including Yamaha's RXV765 receiver and PSB Image Series speakers all around. I seriously contemplated between the Denon DP300F and Project Audio's Debut-III table. In the end I decided I wanted an automatic turntable and I ended up getting the Denon.

Having not listened to vinyl in at least 10 years I was eager to have my first listen. My girlfriend gave me a mint-condition copy of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon for Christmas. I turned on the turntable and..... it sounded pretty horrible. Pops and surface noise were very apparent, which was odd considering the record was in such good shape. The highs seemed very washed out, mids were quite muddy and the soundstage well... didn't really sound like a stage at all.

I'd read similar reviews from a few people here on Vinylrecordsandhomeaudio that said almost the same thing. That night (yesterday) I shopped around and settled on Grado's Green cartridge. A local enthusiast installed it for me and, once again, I hooked everything back up and plopped on the same album. What a difference. I was totally floored by the quality, depth and clarity of the sound coming from my speakers. I knew vinyl sounded better, but I realized that this is how music SHOULD sound. I bought the cartridge for $75 US and I have to say it was definitely well worth it.

Aside from that the turntable is quite beautiful; the black laquer base sits very nicely on top of my stereo cabinet. I also added FeltTac(tm) pads under the turntable's feet for extra vibration damping. Overall the build quality is excellent, my only complaint is that the front start and stop buttons do feel a bit on the cheap side.

Overall I'm quite happy with the turntable and am looking forward to many years of listening. If you decide on this turntable budget an extra $50-$100 for a decent cartridge, I hear Audio-Technica also make very good ones as well.

Satisfied with sound quality - upgraded needle
Summary - upgraded the needle to the affordable Shure M97xE audiophile cartridge. Sounds much better now. Hardest part of the setup for me was balancing the tone arm.

Installation - Since the turntable's headshell is removable from the tone arm, it wasn't as hard installing the Shure audiophile cartridge (paid only $58 at amazon.com)contrary to what some had said it was. However, for a nice tight grip, I had to insert the screw from below so that it was easier for me to use a small wrench to hold the nut above while I tightened the screw head (small screw driver provided).Although the receiver's manual had specific measurements on how far & what angle the needle should be from the head, at some point I just ignored it and made the best judgement I could.

Problems encountered - after installing the cartride on the headshell and tightening the whole assembly onto the tone arm, I balanced the tone arm. The manual says to make sure the tone arm is parallel/level to the record surface. I did. I pushed "start", the tone arm moved over the record but didn't play. After trying various things including reading up on 'trouble shooting' in the manual/online and almost giving up, I decided to adjust the weight some more. The tone arm was now heavy enough to drop down, and I heard some sound but it was skipping all over the record. Thinking rationally, I imagined that a stylus is supposed to sit in and follow the grooves, so it must be skipping because it's not dropping down deep enough onto the record. I adjusted the counter weight some more and then the needle didn't skip any more. Phew! Next I adjusted the counter weight to the opposite direction just to ensure the needle isn't digging too deeply into the record grooves so that it doesn't get ruined. Amazing sound. Second problem: I noticed that with the brush down (the Shure cartridge has a brush attached that is supposed to clean the record surface before the needle passes over the grooves), I had to adjust the counterweight again because the needle was skipping again. Once I did, the needle didn't skip anymore but I noticed that for me with the brush down, the sound isn't as clean, rich and full as it was without the needle so I decided to keep it up and not use it. This was smart because I played a brand new record after playing old records and noticed that the dirt picked up by the cartridge brush was getting deposited (by static electricity?)onto my new vinyl. I lifted up the brush. I don't think I'll be using the brush any more or at least only on an old dirty record. The only problem I have left to figure out is that when I push start, the tone arm moves and starts playing at the last song in the record instead of the first one. I'll figure this out soon, afterall, it's only been a couple of hours since I installed this turntable. I'm new to this; never owned a turntable before. To be honest,I never understood what the manual was talking about when it says use 2g or 1.75g for this cartridge and adjust the antiskating knob to thesame number. I just winged it! Hope I do not damage my cartridge...oh well, it's a learning experience.

Sound - the sound is amazing. It does sound better than a CD. I turned the volume very high that my glass window and kitchen glasses were shaking and rattling but the turntable kept playing! No skipping whatsoever. I don't know what the other reviewers were talking about. Now, when I tap or knock on the dust cover, the catridge picks it up and you'd hear it. But why on earth would you wanna do that for? Moreover, my large floor speakers stands on the right next to the turntable which is placed onto a shelf but none of the vibrations interferred with the sound. No hum is heard at all. On a brand new record, it's completely silent in between songs; the popping sounds are not heard. This turntable rules! You really gotta buy it to believe it...unless you're one of those die hard audiophiles who won't believe in a Denon but in a Debut III or Rega P1 (both of which I ruled out because these do not have built-in amplifiers so your receiver must have a phono input or you'll need to purchase a good quality external amplifier after shedding at least $400 on these babies!).
