Vinylrecordsandhomeaudio.com Product Description
Sony has created a great, compact digital music player with the MZ-RH910 Hi-MD Walkman Digital Music Player. Music is stored on Hi-MD discs -- one GB of storage equals over 600 songs (depending on file format). You can easily expand your music storage with additional discs. They are available for only a few dollars, so increasing your storage capacity is affordable. The MZ-RH910 is also backward compatible with the standard MiniDisc media discs.

The five-line LCD screen lets you know what's playing -- the display provides album, artist, and song title. Music on the go has never been better with Sony's Skip-Free G-Protection technology which provides virtually uninterrupted playback of your music.

Sony had the digital music lover in mind when they built this digital player. It is highly compatible with your PC. With the included software you can transfer files from your PC to the MZ-RH910, and vice versa, at a break-neck, 100x transfer speed. And while you're doing this you won't have to worry about your digital music player's battery life -- the USB cable will power the unit when transferring music. Speaking of battery life, you can expect up to 34 hours of continuous playback with the included nickel-metal hydride rechargeable battery plus one AA battery.

If you already have extensive music libraries, use the included software to store and play back your collection of MP3s. On the other hand, if you're just getting into digital music and downloading, Sony's ATRAC format provides higher sound quality with smaller sizes than many competing formats. This enables you to store more music and have longer listening times. The system also allows you to play back the most popular Internet audio formats, including WMA and WAV files, with quick, easy conversion to ATRAC.

Sony just keeps on bringing you the hits with this device. Another great feature is the self-recording upload function. Use the line-in jack on the Hi-MD player to transfer and archive your favorite, old tapes to low cost Hi-MD discs. The mic input is a perfect solution for self-recordings, school concerts, or meetings. With your music or recordings stored on Hi-MD discs, you can transfer the files to your computer and covert them to WAV format. A file saved in WAV format provides you with the flexibility to import the file into a music burning software program where you can burn the file to a CD-R/RW. The MZ-RH910 from Sony is not only a digital music player, but also a mini-recording studio in the palm of your hand. You can capture and digitize almost any sound or old-school recorded format with the mic input and line-in jack!

What's in the Box
MZ-RH910 Hi-MD Walkman, nickel-metal hydride rechargeable battery, charging stand, dry battery case, AC power adaptor, digital cable, Walkman earbuds, SonicStage software, one GB Hi-MD disc, and USB cable.

Customer Reviews for  'Sony MZ-RH910 Hi-MD Walkman Digital Music Player'

Best MD player I ever had
I use MD player mostly for listening to audio books. It will play back where you left last time by simply press PLAY. The sound quality is more than adequate.

The best part that you will have an almost unlimited storage space with this system. However, the recent drop in flash memory price has made it less competitive to players with memory expansion slot.

Good player, but has it's bugs.
The I bought the MZ-RH910 one year ago and so far it has been the most convenient player around. The player itself is well designed and the features are very welcomed, specially the line in recording, which makes good quality recordings. The problem is in the PC-Player interface. SonicStage sucks to be honest. The program crashes often during transfer and the transfer speed with conversion is slow (which could be the program, the player write speed or both). Also the player strangely does not recharge while connected, you have to press and hold the stop key so it'll go into recharge mode, so you can't listen to it while it is recharging. The battery life isn't great either, at most 4-6hrs, My old mini disc runs on regular AAs and it gives me well over 10hrs. Overall not a bad player, specially for recording. I have to admit sound quality even during compression is admirable. But bugs here and there make it cumbersome to use.

The MZ-RH910 Works Great
The Sony MZ-RH910 comes with -PC Sonic Stage MD burning program- Stereo head phones-AC Power Adaptor-USB cable -1 Rechargable Battery-1Dry Battery Case-1GB Blank Disk . I use the MZ-R910 to record my music group,I use the High Quality sony ECM-DS70P stereo microphone,it's small and made for High Quality recording for useing HI-MD recorders or D.A.T.'s .This MZ-RH910 is great for downloading Mp3's .After recording from a microphone , Connect the supplied USB cable to your Hi-Md and Connect the other end to a port on your PC.(when your PC is on, you will not need your AC/DC or battery). Then you can record your music from the MZ-RH910 to your PC , useing the sonic stage and save the music file as a Mp3 or WAV file for best quality, save it as a WAV file .If you have another program you like to use to burn with or split the music files into tracks ,save your music then close sonic stage and open it up in another program. I think the Sony MZ-RH910 is very good and at a great price.

Crippled Design
Requires installation of bloated software on every Windows machine you want to transfer files too.

Only works with a Windows machine.

From the Manual (of which I couldn't copy and paste from because it is "copy protected") a note states "Tracks that have been digitally recorded on a Hi-MD device and then imported to SonicStage cannot be written to Audio CD." So if you hook up a digital mixer to the MD to record your band you are out of luck.

Transfers to and from the computer often fail and corrupt your file. The Manual states "Tracks that have been recorded on a Hi-MD Walkman can be imported ... to SonicStage ... only once." So you're out of luck if there is a power outage while transferring that recording of your band's greatest live performance.

From the Manual "Tracks transferred to the the MD ... from another computer cannot be transferred back to My Library on your computer." So god forbid if you actually use more then one computer to manage your the audio you record with this device.

Don't buy it
The SonicStage is really a disaster. I have been using MZ-RH910 for a year, and I use it for recording music lessons. When I upload my files to computer to back them up, I alway have some recordings (about 15%)unreadable by SonicStage, even though I can listen to them with the MiniDV. What can I do with those recordings? I can only leave them in the MD walkman. If my MZ-RH910 is broken, I have to buy another one in order to listen to those recordings. Obviously I will never buy Sony's recorder again.
